(In the example shown here, they say you’ll have to start the rocket burn in 16 seconds, and have to change your speed 843.2 m/s, with Estimated Burn lasting 1 day(!) and 1 hour.) Tutorial There is a very handy tool: “Make Maneuver” on your path ahead of you: you can pull different angles and see the resulting path, and you’ll get a blue guide in the navigation ball and a note about how soon you should burn rocket and how much you should burn. (Atmosphere tapers off to about 70,000 m, so an orbit at 100,000 m is great and will last forever.) To get orbit you’ll need 2,200 m/s velocity! Might want to tip over 45° at that point and eventually fly flat (horizontal) because the ground will drop out beneath you as you go past the “edge” of the planet. Above 10,000 meters you can go full throttle without wasting fuel from pushing air out of the way. In thick atmosphere (below 10,000 meters) keep speed below 200 m/s and fly straight up. įlight Tips Flying from Kerbin (“Earth”): Note: the “Nav Ball” has some important icons: you, “prograde” (forward), and “retrograde” (backward). There is speedometer on top of the navigation ball. This allows you to copy text from the current window and its history into the paste buffer. If there is one defining ctrl-C as something else then redefine it. Obviously the remote controlled session has this enabled and is allowing clipboard sharing, because it works from a web client at the same time it does not work from the desktop client. If you aren't using XHTML and would like to change the default encoding back to iso-8859 like previous versions, go to Preferences > Encodings. As with any major change, be sure to make a back-up of your entire site before running the command. After running that command on your site, you shouldn't have to worry about assigning the encoding when opening your old pages anymore. This command will write the encoding META tag into each page and re-encode all text to match. You can easily encode (or re-encode) all the pages in your site at once (or a group of pages) by using the new Special > Convert > Encoding. GoLive will automatically assign the encoding used to open the file. You can also assign the encoding type after the page has been opened by dragging an Encode object from the Head tab of the Objects Palette into your document head section. NOTE: Do NOT use this feature to change to a different encoding since the page text will not be re-encoded to match your selection. Be sure to choose the encoding type used to create the document (probably iso-8859-1) and you can choose the second option to "set the page to the selected encoding" and let GoLive write the encoding META tag into the head section of your page. When opening a file with no encoding, GoLive should prompt you to specify which encoding to open the file in. If your special characters in documents made in earlier versions of GoLive appear corrupted when opening into GoLive CS2, it may be because there is no encoding type set in your document, and CS2 is opening it with the new default producing unexpected results. Using any other encoding with an XML document requires an XML prolog, which drops IE Win into quirks mode, so UTF-8 encoding is best for producing valid XHTML pages. Also, UTF-8 is the default encoding for XML. Why the change? Aside from just not having to use the HTML character entities, UTF-8 works well for many languages that use characters outside the standard English character set. Entering, for instance, a non-breaking space character in layout view will result in a non- breaking space character in source view instead of the HTML entity. UTF-8 does not require HTML entities to display many special characters. The default text encoding has changed from iso-8859-1 (GoLive CS and under) to UTF-8 (GoLive CS2). Small bursts of fire were filmed in front of a black background and made transparent using a luma key. Most notably, the creators of the fire breathing Balrog in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring used sprites to simulate fire emanating from the surface of the demon. Sprites have also occasionally been used as a special effects tool in movies. The sprite illusion can be exposed in video games by quickly changing the position of the camera while keeping the sprite in the center of the view. Often sprites are used to depict phenomena such as fire, smoke, small objects, small plants (like blades of grass), or special symbols (like "1-Up"). When the illusion works viewers will not notice that the sprite is flat and always faces them. the viewer accepts that the depicted object only has one perspective.the depicted object has a similar appearance from many common viewing angles (such as something spherical).the sprite exists only for a short period of time.the animation is constantly changing or depicts rotation.the image inside the sprite already depicts a three dimensional object.Sprites create an effective illusion when: This rendering method is also referred to as billboarding. The image can be scaled to simulate perspective, it can be rotated two dimensionally, it can overlap other objects and be occluded, but it can only ever be viewed from the same angle. Unlike a texture map, the sprite plane is always perpendicular to the axis emanating from the camera. More often sprite now refers to a partially transparent two dimensional animation that is mapped onto a special plane in a three dimensional scene. These imperfections escape the notice of most viewers because they are rare, and often do not last very long as they and the camera move. Even though the original image that created the grass sprite was clearly created using textured polygons, it is being added to this scene as a sprite. For this to be a correct perspective the grass would have to be leaning toward the ground away from the camera at an obtuse angle. The base of the grass is closer to the camera than the flower yet the blades appear to be behind. Also notice that the grass near his feet is interacting with the flower near his feet in a strange way. Notice that one sprite at the bottom of the largest puff of smoke is cutting into the ground, revealing its actual geometry is not an amorphous puff but a flat plane. Take a look at the puffs of smoke about the character and to the left. Other objects in the frame such as the character (Link), the flower just behind his feet, and the rock walls and ground are more complicated three dimensional objects that employ texture mapping.Ī closer look at the graphic can help reveal imperfections of this rendering technique. In this frame the sprouts of grass and brown puffs of smoke are integrated into the scene using sprites. As three-dimensional graphics became more prevalent, the term was used to describe a technique whereby flat images are seamlessly integrated into complicated three-dimensional scenes.Īn example of sprite animation from the popular game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. That is, figures generated by either custom hardware or by software alone were all referred to as sprites. As computer performance improved, this optimization became unnecessary and the term evolved to refer specifically to the two dimensional images themselves that were integrated into a scene. Sprites were originally invented as a method of quickly compositing several images togethĮr in two-dimensional video games using special hardware. In computer graphics, a sprite is a two-dimensional image or animation that is integrated into a larger scene. It is leading followers into the institution and not out on paths of discovery. In extreme cases, the institution itself–the Church, if you will–becomes a 7-headed beast. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case–some “religions” have chosen to make man-made “rules” by which one becomes a believer rather than a fellow-explorer with congregationalists on the path of discovery. Religion– as we usually use the word to describe an organized religion that has an established set of principles and tenets by which they abide–should be always one of the points of life–that place where we can freely examine our own nature and use as a reference and guide the life of Jesus (if you are a Methodist, as I am). We all fight beasts–the worst ones being those which live inside us–and we need all of the tools known to man to overcome them. I ask myself if I do this as a saintly, deeply devout man who is showing his flock the way to go, or am I the charlatan–a blasphemer– who gives forgiveness in the name of God so the receiver can ease his conscience and simply continue in ungodly ways.” “I have to believe that I am the son of my true father, on earth, and the Father in Heaven or I would go mad.” Reply I have God’s power to take the burden of sin off of the back of the communicant. He said (paraphrase, of course) “I consider this deeply when I am listening to confession. Many years later, his mentor asked him if he knew which twin he actually was. There was a fire and only one child escaped he joined the priesthood. The twins were mirror images, but one exhibited the nature of his father and the other the nature of his mother. She was beautiful, but unpredicable, a bit of a charletan, and acknowledged no religion to be hers. New thought for Sarah– I think a “parable” short story by Isak Dinesen, written many years ago, illustrates the basic dilemma found in any organized group that claims to be a “religion.” There were twin sons born to a wise and devout king and his young, tempestuous wife. But, as Gamache proves time and again, it’s also in our nature to cherish decency. If you have read The Nature of the Beast, you know a major plot point revolves around man’s apparent predisposition to make war. To the right is a woodcut by Albrecht Dürer depicting the Beast as interpreted from the Book of Revelation (17:7). “Un monstre.” His French wasn’t very good, but it was good enough for that. “Is it a beast?” Rosenblatt asked, finding it difficult to breathe. “Oui,” said Beauvoir, caution creeping into his voice. “Oui,” said Beauvoir, standing up slowly at his desk in the Incident Room. Here is the moment, from The Nature of the Beast, when the investigators begin to get an inkling of what they might be up against: The biblical beast, who waged war against God in the New Testament’s Book of Revelations. In Louise’s novel, it is both a reference to human nature, and a haunting evocation of something far more malevolent. The origin of the idiom is murky and has been interpreted in many ways since it was first uttered. The Oxford Dictionary defines the expression as “The inherent and unchangeable character of something” and the phrase itself first appeared in John Ray’s Collection of English Proverbs which was published in the 1600’s. It’s the only time the phrase, the nature of the beast, is used within the novel but the power it conveys is so strong it titles the book. It’s the nature of the beast.” ( The Nature of the Beast,, Trade Paperback Edition)įor those of you who have read the 11th installment in the Louise Penny canon, you know that this retort, directed at Gamache, comes at a crucial moment in the plot. “There’s been weapons since there’s been man,” said Delorme. 32-bit QuickTime Player 7 won't work on macOS Catalina/Big Sur After upgrading to macOS Catalina/Big Sur, you can't use QuickTime Player 7 that is based on 32-bit tech. But don't worry, we have find an ideal macOS Catalina media player that can tackle this kind of problem well. The performance of Vectorworks when working on a shared project over the network will depend on the available network bandwidth. You can reduce this size by opting to not install some of the larger Vectorworks content files. Hard drive size requirements are driven by the total size of Designer with Renderworks including all content files. Faster hard drives can have a large impact on system performance especially when virtual memory is actively being used.įaster or slower processor clock speeds have a predictable impact on Vectorworks performance. Extreme lack of RAM may cause operations to generate errors in cases where given sufficient RAM they would otherwise succeed. When RAM runs out, Vectorworks usually continues to function, but is slowed significantly by the need to access the hard drive to provide virtual memory. If you have problems with an earlier maintenance release, we will often ask you to update as an initial troubleshooting step.įor users who work with large files and complex renderings, we recommend running with at least 8GB of RAM. Unless there is a known problem with a maintenance release of the operating system, we recommend the latest maintenance release at the time we ship a new release of Vectorworks as a minimum because that is what we test with. As long as you have appropriate and current drivers for the hardware on your machine, you can expect fast and reliable Vectorworks behavior. We do support Vectorworks running under Boot Camp on Mac machines. They may be appropriate for administrative testing or utility purposes but you should not expect good performance in these environments, however, especially with interactive screen feedback. We do not consider remote login environments such as Remote Desktop, Terminal Services and VNC or virtual machine environments such as Parallels and VMware to be appropriate for regular work, so Vectorworks performance in these situations is not of primary concern to us. The majority of display problems reported to our Technical Support department have been traced to older video drivers.įor the latest information on our graphics card recommendations for Vectorworks 2016, go to the Vectorworks Knowledgebase and search for "OpenGL". We strongly recommend that all users check that their video drivers are current. If you want to take full advantage of OpenGL shadows and edges, especially in situations where you have any combination of the following:Īnd if you have a graphics card with less than 1GB of VRAM, you should consider upgrading your graphics card. OpenGL rendering of shadows and edges are VRAM-intensive and require at least 1GB, with 2GB of VRAM or more being preferable. Larger displays should use a modern graphics card with at least 2GB of VRAM, with 4GB or more recommended. The amount of Video RAM (VRAM) required to drive Vectorworks adequately depends largely on the size of the display being used and the complexity of the Vectorworks document. Medium-sized displays with a native resolution of 1920x1080 or less should be driven by a graphics card with at least 1GB of VRAM. In general, the more powerful your graphics card is, the better your Vectorworks experience will be. Graphics cards should support at a minimum OpenGL version 2.1 cards not meeting this recommendation will have limited functionality and poor performance, particularly when rendering in OpenGL mode. These new features have the potential to provide a very fast and fluid experience if used on capable hardware, or a noticeably slower experience if used on older or incompatible hardware. Additionally, the performance and quality of the graphics provided by the Vectorworks Graphics Module depend directly on the speed, memory, and supported extensions of the graphics card. IMPORTANT – Several Vectorworks features have placed higher demands on graphic hardware. ** See the discussion in the Graphics Card section below. * See the discussion in the Optimizing Performance section below. VRAM: 1GB (minimum), 2GB-4GB (recommended)Ī dedicated graphics card is highly recommended 32bit operating systems will NOT be able to run Vectorworks 2016 and later.Ħ4-bit Intel Core i5 (or AMD equivalent), Intel Xeon E4 series or betterĨGB – 16GB recommended for large files and complex renderings. Vectorworks 2016 and later are 64 bit applications. Likewise, there are some less demanding situations where Vectorworks will perform well on older hardware. In some demanding cases, we would suggest a more capable machine than is described by these recommendations. The following are real-world system requirements for running Vectorworks 2016. |
